Some very sad news

30th Apr 2020

The whole Dundela family is deeply saddened as we reflect on the life of a much loved member.

Mrs Janet Martin taught in school for more than 30 years before her retirement4 years ago. She spent most of her long career teaching in Primary One.   Janet touched the lives of many ... colleagues who became friends, children who she set on a firm foundation for learning, and parents whose minds she set at ease that their children would thrive in the caring ethos of Dundela Infants’ School.

In the latter years of her teaching career she often had an immediate bond with a new Primary 1 child or two, because she had taught their mum or dad before them.   She was a dedicated and capable teacher. She often put anxious children and their parents at ease with her kind and approachable manner. The affection in which she was held was obvious with many children and parents returning to chat to her at the classroom door in the afternoon when they were ‘just passing’.

Janet leaves an indelible mark on the history of Dundela Infants’ School. She will be sadly missed by all. On behalf of the Board of Governors, staff, parents and pupils of Dundela Infants’ School we extend our heartfelt sympathy to her father Tommy, her husband Bill, daughter Ciara and son Ryan.
